I just recently got the Nyx Smokey Palette for Christmas in a cute set with two of their lip glosses. I was super excited because I always found Nyx products to be good quality for someone on a budget. This still holds true, but spoiler alert: I am not a huge fan of this palette. Keep reading to see why.
As you can see, the palette looks gorgeous just looking at it straight from the packaging. It contains your typical shades for a smokey/night-time look. In fact, once I saw this, I was looking to use this in my Special Occasions makeup look, since these are very glamorous shades (left to right): a sparkly black, matte/satin black, satin plum, satin navy, satin champagne, and a glitzy white. When I swatched them, they had fair pigmentation but had a bit of a chalky texture (lots of fallout and little blend ability). This turned out to be true when I tried to do a simple smokey eye. I could not blend these out smoothly for the life of me, even with a primer underneath. The result was very patchy and I was disappointed.
Disclaimer: Every other Nyx product, including single eyeshadows, have been fantastic. This is the only product that I didn’t like. Maybe I simply got a bad batch.
A good note about this gift set, however, is that the lip glosses are gorgeous and smell like cherries. They are some of the most pigmented glosses I have ever used and can be worn alone or on top of any lipstick/lip liner. The set came with a nude and a red and I am loving both.
