Congratulations! You are one of the 2% of the worlds population gifted with lovely green eyes. I have green eyes, but when I was little I used to be very sad because I had blue eyes and I always envied my mother’s lovely shade of green. Finally, my eyes began to gradually change when I was 12 years old. Now I know that everyone’s eyes are unique no matter what color they are, but that doesn’t change that I love to play mine up with fancy makeup. If you are a person with green eyes, you just might learn something new in this article.
Color Wheel
We all remember this in elementary art class. The teacher pointed out primary, secondary, and complimentary colors. Today we are focusing on complimentary colors. Notice how the deepest green on here is opposite of the red on the color wheel. These are complimentary colors. That means they provide the biggest contrast to one another and, therefore, make each other pop. When having green eyes, I find the complimentary colors of cyan (next to deep green), deep green, light green, and bright yellow are the best to go off of. This is because people with green eyes tend to have flecks of these shades amongst the over all green color.
->Orange, red, pink, and purple are the best colors for complimenting green eyes. From this, we can conclude that warm colors compliment green eyes better than cool ones.
Trust me, I know these colors sound intimidating. But there are ways to make bright colors wearable for every day. I’ll break it down by color for you guys.
Red:
I like this look because it is just a small wash of red for a pop of color. It reminds my of a look I did inspired by geishas. They do eye makeup with a small pop of red that can look very sophisticated. Be warned: you’ll want to blend very well. I suggest laying down an eyeshadow the same color as your skin so the other shadow has something to blend into. This goes with all dark and bright colors. I also think you can add a nice touch to a typical black smokey eye by adding a pop of red/maroon into the crease and blend it into the black.
Orange:
I have been kind of obsessed with this look since Kat Von D’s Monarch Palette came out. I love how a burned orange smokey eye can make green eyes look so mesmerizing. My only change to this is that I’d use black on the lid because I love drama.
Pink:
Perfect for Valentine’s Day! If you are intimidated by neon pink eyeshadow, you can opt for a pretty pale pink like the one this picture shows. You can simply pop it in the crease or under the lash line a bit and pare it with a winged out shadow look.
Purple:
This look is probably the easiest. Just swipe on a purple liner (or you can use eyeshadow with an angled brush) like you would for a cat eye. For an even more subtle look, you can always shade your lower lash line and top lash line and the smoke it out for a very quick, but dazzling look.
I hope this post has helped you if you wanted to make your eyes really pop or if you were just looking for ideas. I just wanted to show you that you were not stuck in a rut if you didn’t want to wear crazy colors. Makeup has no rules so there are always multiple possibilities!
Thanks for reading.
