Singer Lana Del Rey has an aura about her that instantly makes us feel as though we are in a low lit cabaret listening to a voice that reminds us of pure silk. She’s just come out with her new album, Honeymoon, which was No. 1 on Billboard. I couldn’t imagine not being captivated by her. She is a true beauty. Personally, I’ve learned so much from her demeanor and her style and that is what I want to share with you all.
Lesson #1: It’s Good to be Bad
Lana looks like she could kick some butt in that leather jacket. Her smudged eyeliner says “Yeah, I’m pretty. But I did absolutely nothing to achieve this look.” It’s that slept-in kind of look, but in a sultry way. The red lipstick is a gorgeous touch to add some more femininity to the look.
Lesson #2: The 60’s Mastered the Eyeliner Before You Did
It is seen in many of Lana’s pictures that she takes inspiration from the swingin’ sixties. A thick flick on top, definition on the bottom, as well as a line in the crease made for a graphic cat eye. She seriously was born way after her time.
Lesson #3: Smiling is Better Than Any Makeup
Sure, she takes a lot of pictures with that typical model face/expression: straight face and piercing eyes. There are times, though, when she smiles bright and I can’t help but smile myself. Here, she kept it simple with a nude lip and gold eyeshadow and smiled wide for the cameras.
Lesson #4: Always Extend the Line
If you see me every day, you know I almost never leave the house without my eyeliner being thick and flicked. You can blame Lana for that one. She rocks it so well, even when it is the centerpiece of her look with the rest of the face neutral. Granted, rose thorns are making her lips bleed but she makes that look glamorous, too.
Seriously, tough, Lana Del Rey is a huge inspiration to me and I’m so glad I found her music. You guys should check her out, too.
Thanks for reading.
